The speed test

When you select “Test my connection,” your browser sends test traffic to Cloudflare’s speed-test service using its open-source measurement engine. Cloudflare receives your public IP address and network requests. Its engine collects measurement results to generate aggregated insights about connection quality.

Cloudflare’s speed-test documentation describes estimating location and network information, truncating IP addresses, and sharing anonymized measurements with research partners. This service is operated by Cloudflare, and its current policies govern its data handling.

What this site keeps

This version keeps your displayed test results only in the current page’s memory. It does not create an account, save a test history, or add advertising or analytics trackers. The hosting service and external providers may process routine request information under their own policies. Results disappear when you reload or close the page.

Movie requests and search

Submitting “Ask an expert” saves your movie preference, optional note, conversation messages, and the expert’s recommendation in the site database. Your request link contains a random access code; anyone with that full link can read the request. Keep it private if you include personal details. The owner can view requests in a protected inbox, exchange messages with you, and provide a movie link and caption. This is a conversation with the human site owner; replies are not generated automatically. Normal searches do not create expert requests.

Search combines homepage picks with film information from Wikidata, or a separately connected movie provider. Your search text is sent to that provider. Movie matches are not a promise of an available download. Selecting “Check downloads” queries the connected StreamFlix catalogue using the movie ID. File links are checked before display; files come directly from the external host. Availability, file contents, and language are controlled by that provider. Search results are cached to reduce repeat requests and may be shown from saved results during an outage. Browser alerts are optional and operate while the owner’s inbox is open. Short-lived hashed request buckets limit repeated submissions; raw IP addresses are not stored in the movie-request database.

Data usage and interpretation

A full run can transfer approximately 188 MB of payload plus network overhead, although the engine may stop increasing transfer sizes earlier. Your internet provider may count this toward a data allowance. You can stop the test at any time.

Results measure the path from your device to Cloudflare at the time of the test. Wi-Fi conditions, background activity, routing, browser behavior, and server conditions affect measurements. Results and movie download-time estimates are informational; they do not guarantee your plan speed or the speed of other destinations. Small transfer sizes may underrepresent very fast connections.

Movie downloads and credits

The initial collection links to freely released open films from Blender Foundation. Files download directly from the official Blender host; dataspeedonadate does not host or modify them. Some files are ZIP archives or require a compatible media player. Attribution and source links appear on each movie card. License conditions still apply.

Space imagery

The nebula background is Webb’s Cosmic Cliffs in the Carina Nebula, credited to NASA, ESA, CSA, and STScI. Webb’s infrared observations are processed into a colour image. The interactive Earth uses NASA’s Earth Observatory Blue Marble 2002, a satellite-data composite. These images are used as a visual setting; the arrangement of Earth, foreground stars, and nebula is artistic, not an accurate astronomical view.

Availability and affiliation

dataspeedonadate is an independent project, not an official Cloudflare or Blender product. External tests and downloads can be unavailable or change. They are provided without a promise of uninterrupted access, unlimited usage, or a particular result.
